2012 round up part 5 – Madefire

We here at MB are getting reflective, thinking of all the great projects we got to be a part of last year and pondering what 2013 may have in store for them. One of our biggest achievements of the year was Madefire, the revolutionary new publishing start-up which aims to revolutionise how stories are told, read and shared.

From the launch in June, there’s been no stopping this train. We have been truly taken aback by the the overwhelming support and enthusiasm for this endeavour. It was featured under the ‘New and Noteworthy’ section of the US App Store straight from launch and also received praise from influential and respected sites such as Tech Crunch, Brand New, Venturebeat, as well as CNN, MTV and USAToday. We were then glad to see the identity in the trusted hands of others, as it was featured onscreen in Apple’s Keynote iPad mini launch in November.

In the end of year best-of lists Madefire was chosen for the ‘Hidden Gems’ category in the Apple App Store ‘Best of 2012′ and the comics have received recognition in their own right too; Captain Stone Is Missing was voted one of the Top Digital Comic for 2012 by Pipedream Comics readers and Mono was singled out by FastCo as one of the 10 coolest original digital comics of the year. It is great to see this project embraced beyond launch; the identity, app and comics have all received the highest praise and a devoted following.

Starting 2013 on a high, Moving Brands and Madefire Founder Ben Wolstenholme says; ‘Madefire’s audacious goal is to empowering a new wave of storytelling. To do this we had to build an end-to-end publishing platform for people to make books – Motion Books – and hope that readers cared for the reading experience… 2012 smashed through all of our expectations – Madefire has made a big impression – with a stunning iconic brand to fuel it. This year is about opening the platform and seeing it grow far beyond us… we’re still in act one!’

Thank you to all who supported Madefire this year through your shares, tweets, downloads and profiles, but the journey has just started – here’s to a whole new adventure in 2013!
